Understanding the cost of therapy

Pain travels through families until someone is ready to feel it.

FAQs

  • I understand that attending therapy is an investment in your mental health and wellbeing. The cost of therapy depends on the type of therapy you are seeking. You can find all rates listed below.

  • I am a private pay, out-of-network provider, which means that I do not accept insurance. This ensures that your insurance company cannot dictate how many sessions you receive or require a diagnosis for your treatment. I encourage you to check your out-of-network benefits as you may be eligible for reimbursement.

Additionally, I partner with Mentaya to help clients get money back on out-of-network therapy sessions. If you qualify, Mentaya will file claims and handle the insurance paperwork for reimbursement. It's completely optional, and as your therapist I do not benefit in any way from your participation.  I cannot guarantee reimbursement from your insurance.

  • Yes, a reduced fee (courtesy rate) may be available. I reserve a number of spots in my schedule to offer a courtesy rate to those experiencing financial hardship.

When possible I will work with you to find a way for therapy to be financially sustainable. Please contact me to discuss.

  • You are the expert here! It's your life, these are your therapy sessions, so you set the goals and I bring the evidence-based strategies and years of experience to come alongside you as we work towards your goals together. I also want to make sure I provide you with new tools and strategies that you can use to work towards your goals outside of sessions, too! My goal is to help you reach your therapy goals and work myself out of a job - whether that's in a few sessions, months, or years based on what you need out of therapy.

  • You can expect three things in our first session: 1 - Our focus is about what's bringing you to therapy, 2 - I'll ask you about your background (kind of similar to a health history when you started seeing your primary care doctor but therapy edition), and 3 - We'll explore your goals for our work together. It's also a great time for you to ask any questions you have about working together and to make sure we're a good fit therapeutically.

  • You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical and mental health care will cost.
Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services. You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services. You can ask your healthcare provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises.
